vivo has launched another smartphone in the local market, and this time, it’s an addition to the Y series, the vivo Y29. This device is positioned in the gaming and budget-friendly segment, but is it worth it? Let’s find out.
First things first, the design. The vivo Y29 comes in a smooth back panel. It is quite similar to the vivo T4x 5G, which was launched in India during the first quarter of 2025. Aesthetic-wise, it is available in two colors, Marble White and Espresso Brown and our review unit comes in Espresso Brown.
In terms of its dimensions this device weighs at 204 grams and is just 8.09 mm thick. It’s not that heavy, so if you’re planning to use this as your gaming device, we must say its weight and size won’t be much of an issue.
On top of that, the vivo Y29 is rated IP64 for dust and water resistance. It may not be as durable as other devices but you rarely see this rating at this price range.
On top of that, the vivo Y29 is rated IP64 for dust and water resistance. It also boasts SGS Five-Star Drop Resistance and Military Grade durability.
Around the frame, you’ll find the power button and volume rockers on the right side. Meanwhile, at the bottom, there’s a speaker grille, SIM card tray, and USB-C charging port.
Now that we’ve talked about its design and build, let’s flip the device over and check out its display.
The vivo Y29 boasts a 6.68-inch IPS LCD screen with a 1608 × 720 resolution and up to 120Hz refresh rate.
As for its viewing angles, the Y29 gave us a decent experience, watching movies is a pleasant experience.
For optics, the vivo Y29 offers a dual rear camera setup consisting of a 50MP main sensor and a 2MP secondary lens. Up front, it sports an 8MP punch-hole selfie camera.
The camera app comes with several modes such as Night, Portrait, Photo, Video, Pano, Documents, Slo-mo, Time-lapse, Pro, and Live Photo.
The rear main camera results are quite decent for its segment. Under good lighting conditions, the 50MP sensor captures images with vibrant colors and a fair amount of detail. Although, there might be times that it can be too saturated.

As for its selfies, If you want a more true-to-life skin tone I suggest turning off the beautification mode since there are times that images come out pale. If you want natural colors and details then turning off the beautification mode delivers that quality.

We also tested it in video recording, and the Y29 supports up to 1080p resolution. Video quality is acceptable for basic use, with decent color and stabilization, though it lacks features like 4K recording. In well-lit environments, clips appear sharp enough for social media use
As for its power, under the hood, the vivo Y29 is equipped with the 6nm Snapdragon 685 chipset, paired with 8GB of RAM and your choice of either 128GB or 256GB of internal storage.
In terms of performance, the Y29 handled day-to-day tasks smoothly. Although it will struggle a bit when it comes to multitasking but all in all its performance is ample enough for our needs.
As for its gaming, this device performed well. After more than an hour of gaming with call of duty mobile the device didn’t heat up or lag. Also, there is a 400% audio booster feature which makes gaming and entertainment enjoyable.
